We are planning to roll out the following updates on March 2024. These can be already seen in the staging version: https://staging.burlo.greenpeace.org/
1) New local admin features for NROs to customize their own UTM standards
New local admin role
Enable customization of all UTM parameters
All UTM standards can be locally customized 🙌
Flexibility to use global or local standards
Enable custom fields for each NROs customization
Enable local admin users to create and manage custom field dropdown values for their NRO instance.
2) New global standards to ensure better alignment with industry best practices
Updated list of global campaign projects (global_project):
For NROs participating in Global Projects and/or GPI teams creating content, we recommend using a custom query in your URLs to map traffic to specific global projects. The Global Project dropdown has been updated to include the latest Global Project Standards.
We are introducing new channel groups to better organize Burlo's UI and match with the latest Google Analytics 4 Default Channel Groups.
We are introducing a new list of utm_source values aligned with the industry standards. We propose a simplification and standardization of values using the platform names (eg. faebook, instagram, twitter) instead of the domain names. We have also removed unused values from the list.
We are introducing a new list of utm_medium to make sure traffic is correctly attributed to the right channels in Google Analytics 4.
We have also removed global standards for optional parameters such as utm_content and utm_term - these can be standardized by NROs local admins if needed.
3) Small changes on the user interface
Platforms are now called Sources (utm_source).
Remove the scope field
Tracking will be done using two parameters, utm_campaign for local projects, global_project for global projects. It will be assumed that any links with only utm_campaign filled in are local scope.
Order all dropdown values in alphabetical order
Remove GPI baskets instances
Removing Burlo accounts of the baskets: We propose to remove the accounts of the baskets, to follow structural changes in GPI (there are no baskets anymore).
Each NRO admin should only be able to change/edit their own UTM parameters. The only parameter which will be strictly managed by a global admin is the Global Project field, all others are customizable.
One example is the customization of utm_campaign. Dropdowns for the parameter will be locally customizable for each NRO. This will create a framework for better attribution work, aligning tracking with NRO project evaluation.
It's entirely up to the NRO to decide if they immediately want to follow the new standard values proposed by GPI or customize their own, this means that local admins will be able to enable/disable the sync with Global Standards.
Disabling sync with Global Standards:
Re-enabling sync with Global Standards:
⚠️ Custom fields are text-only fields, at the moment it's not possible to standardize their values with a dropdown.
